LIVERPOOL

Liverpool is possibly my favourite city I have ever visited.

This was actually my second time going for my birthday in the last three years and I really don't think I could ever get bored of this city.

I am absolutely obsessed with The Beatles and everywhere you look there is something to do with them here, we even did a few Beatles tours and visited the museums. The bus tour that we did was "The Magical Mystery Tour" which we booked in advance. Again, this was the second time I had done this tour and it was just fabulous. You get so many hen dos and stag dos participating and it is just so much fun.

We actually also stayed in a Beatles themed hotel on Penny Lane (which was a present for me from my wonderful boyfriend) and, obviously, all around there had many-a Beatles spot.

If you know me, you'll know that The Cavern Club is one of my favourite places ever. I just can't put into words how happy it makes me in there. The music, the atmosphere. Everything.

We got to go into The Beatles Story, this was my first time going in here and it was "fab"...

I always try to go to new places when I visit a city for the second or third (or more) time... we visited The Smugglers Cove for a drink or two and that was super cute.

Something else that I had never done before, but really wanted to do was to take a ferry across the mersey. The views off here were just stunning.

The Royal Liver Building is possibly one of my favourite buildings.

Finally, on our way home we checked out a beach nearby, Crosby beach. It has all of these statues dotted across. We got an ice cream and sat and watched the sunset.

CASTLETON

Lying in the lee of mysterious Man Tor, locally known as the 'Shivering Mountain', Castleton is one of the most beautifully-situated villages in the White Peak.

Whether you approach through the dramatic limestone gorge of Winnats Pass or from the Hope Valley, you'll appreciate the fabulous views created by its location on the cusp of the Peak District's breathtaking limestone and gritstone landscapes.

I actually visited Castleton when I was younger at Christmas time and it was just stunning. I really hope to go back again around Christmas time one year.

Speedwell Cavern

Here, you buy your ticket and wait for your boat. You pop on your helmet and go down the stairs, 450m under the Hills of Castleton. Once on the boat you are taken through the cave, learning about the history of the miners in this eighteenth century lead mine, and to the awesome Bottomless Pit.

We then took a little walk...

Peak Cavern AKA The Devil's Arse

A riverside walk takes you past centuries old miners' cottages, opening out into a spectacular limestone gorge. Ahead of you are 280ft high vertical cliffs, with the ruins of Peveril Castle towering above.

Within this entrance chamber you will see the remains of an ancient village where a whole community lived and worked making ropes for the local lead mines for more than 400 years.

Finally, we stopped off for some food in one of the local pubs, got an ice cream and drove home.

Castleton is also well known for The Blue John Cavern, which is home to eight of the fourteen known varieties of Blue John stone, a beautiful and ornamental fluor-spar. The mineral has been mined here for centuries and continues to be in the winter months. We did not have time to check this out, but that just means we'll have to come back another time...

A RAINY DAY IN YORK

Wednesday 14th February 2018

York, England.

Imagine a city with Roman roots and a Viking past, where ancient walls surround contemporary independent shops and vibrant eateries and there’s a festival for every month of the year. Perfectly placed half-way between London and Edinburgh and with the glorious Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and Wolds right on the doorstep, York is unlike any other English city. There’s thirty world-class museums you can explore, the best racecourse in the country and a thriving cultural scene, not forgetting, York is the birthplace of the Yorkshire pudding wrap (yes, you heard me correctly).

We only had a day in this beautiful city, and even with the rain it was just stunning.

I have to say, one of the highlights for me was the Christmas shop... I just LOVED it.

Another highlight- The Stone Roses Bar. We ran for shelter from the rain, grabbed a Strongbow Dark Fruit (obviously) and chose some songs on the jukebox....

York Minster is one the world's most magnificent cathedrals and is one of the largest of its kind in Northern Europe. It is also a stunning place to get photos....

Shambles (or The Shambles as it is often referred to) is a street in the city centre of York with a long and interesting past. Dating back to Medieval times it was once the street of the Butcher Shops. Today the Shambles is Europe's most visited street, attracting tourist, shoppers and business clients.

Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate is one of the smallest streets in York, if not the smallest. It is between Colliergate and Fossgate and intersects The Pavement and The Stonebow in York city centre. It is currently a length of raised pavement between St Crux church hall and a small road junction.

The origin of the name is unclear. "Gate" derives from the Norse word "gate" meaning street. A plaque erected in the street states that it derives from a phrase Whitnourwhatnourgate meaning "What a street!", but most modern sources translate the phrase as "Neither one thing nor the other".

My outfit: as we went on Valentines Day I found it fitting to wear this top (which I love and will probably wear for a few more Valentines Days because when else can you really wear it!?)

GRADUATION GIFT GUIDE

Graduation day last year was my favourite day of my life so far. Being surrounded by my favourite people, celebrating how hard I had worked (and partied) for the last three years.

Now, I have done another year (the hardest yet) doing my PGCE and I'm going to graduate again.
